Winter's Peace...
There comes a time when human events are so out of our control that one must find a place to “lay your head” on soft pillows. Here are some of my favorite photos from the coldest and longest winter in twenty years. Between the photos are the words of an unknown poet, Ela Ravin, who seeks the spirits that are hiding in the boundless forest. Lastly the chords and melody from Chris Thile, our favorite mandolin virtuoso, brings love and light to any room. This is one path we can take to the light when surrounded by fog. May these words, photos and song bring you a moment of peace.
Ela Ravin
My quiet island in every season. A frozen heart in winter, a green pulse in spring
My constant place to breathe…
Fog drinks the last of orange light from winter trees, a patient sight.
Let all the restless noise descend, the bare branch knows how this will end.
A winter hike at sunset—where cold meets warmth, silence meets beauty
and the soul finds its quiet song.
My shadow stretches , long and deep,
A quiet self the light has cast.
And promises the mind will keep
When vibrant day is fully past.
